LMACF History

The Lake Mills Area Community Foundation, Inc. was founded in 1996 to serve the community in ways that enhance the quality of life and promote the betterment of the community and its citizens. Trinity Pines Retirement Center, Inc. made the lead donation of $10,000. The Foundation accepts donations in a variety of forms and awards grants to worthy community projects and organizations. The Foundation is a non-profit 501(C)3 agency and therefore donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by the tax laws.

Through the generosity of both individuals and other entities in the community, the Foundation has established as its core an Endowment Fund and uses only the earnings from this fund to make its grant awards. This assures donors that gifts to the Endowment will live on, impacting the community in perpetuity.

In 2008, through the generosity of Brad and Peggy Vail, the Foundation established a Recognition Courtyard in the Commons Park. Dedicated in 2008, the Courtyard is a place where the Foundation can provide a permanent tribute to its donors.

In 2011 our Foundation was also the recipient of the following:

  • The Scott Alan Ferguson Scholarship Fund – Our First 1 million Dollar donation
A scholarship endowment fund was established with a gift of $1,000,000 to the Foundation by Scott Alan Ferguson, a former Lake Mills resident and Lake Mills High School graduate (Class of 1974).

  • Fiberdome Charitable Fund – Our first major donation from a local business.
Fiberdome Incorporated in Lake Mills set up a donor-advised fund with a $30,000 gift to the Foundation.

  • Richard and Jearnice DeVor Endowment Fund – This fund was established by the DeVor’s for the betterment of our community

Over the years, the Lake Mills Area Community Foundation has been able to spread its charitable arm over a number of different worthy projects. Please look at our Annual Reports section to see recipients of past Foundation grants.

February 26, 2014 was an important day in the Lake Mills Area as LMAC Foundation President Jon Dahle announced  the release of a video about Lake Mills entitled “My Little Town”.

Later that evening a special Foundation presentation was provided at Lewis Wine Station in Lake Mills. The program highlighted Foundation milestones, history, and goals and announcement of a substantial donation to the Foundation’s “Endowment Fund”. This generous donation was from the estate of Dick “Bucky” and Jearnice DeVor.
